Conclusion
Documenting a network from scratch is not an easy task. It’s time consuming, complicated, and there are no good shortcuts. The final product that will result of such a project, however, will have a serious and lasting effect on the wellbeing and stability of the organization as a whole, and the network and IT department in particular. Instead of moving from one emergency to the next trying to solve problems with fragmented and outdated information it should be possible to anticipate and solve problems quicker and more effectively. Most importantly if through the use of this document there is a better grasp of control on a network by its administrator then it has genuinely fulfilled its purpose.
